4.07: How to broadly see Karmas appearing in a birth chart?
4.07.1: Sanchita Karma can be seen from a birth chart by analysing the Yogas in the Rasi Chart. A birth chart may contain any number of Yogas/blessings and/or Doshas/curses. But they are possibilities. They may not always materialise in our current lifetime. One has to be in the right Dasa period and at the right age to enjoy the benefits of a yoga. If said yoga or blessing doesnt occur, then it will still remain as the storehouse of yogas/doshas which is really a record of our Sanchita Karma.
4.07.2: Prarabdha Karma can be seen in a birth chart as the actions manifested by the operating Dasa period. There are many kinds of Dasa systems. Some of them include: Vimshottri, Yogini, Ashtottri, Kalachakra, Narayana Dasa etc. Vimshottri Dasa which is for 120 years is the one that is most studied, researched and applied Dasa system for human beings. Mundane astrology or astrology of world events/weather etc may use a different Dasa system.
This is why sometimes you can see predictions don’t materialise. That is because there is always action and reaction happening in our plane. Our life is the sum total and function of not just our actions/reactions but also that of our family and friends and community etc.
That’s why there will be a promise of marriage occuring at the particular dasa for a chart, but if the chart is that of a 3 year old, obviously it is not indicative of marriage. So we have to look at the other karakas present during that Dasa Lord’s reign. But that Dasa lord will still definitely contribute to the main theme of that time period. He and only he controls that Dasa. We should also take into consideration the antardasa, pratyantar dasa and pranadasa which are sub periods within the main Dasa period. None of this is under our control or can be fixed by us. Because. Prarabdha.
4.07.3: Kriyamana Karma can be seen as our actions and are indicated by the Graha Transits. As we have already discussed, Rasis are stationary while Grahas are ambulatory. All Grahas travel around the Sun/Surya that doesn’t move. They pass through each of the neighbourhoods in space that are the 12 zodiac signs or Rasis.
Every graha has a different shape/size orbit and hence take different chunks of time to transit each Rasi/zodiac sign. This is as seen from Earth. Other factors that determine how long it takes to transit is the speed of the Graha and if it’s motion is direct or retrograde(=slowing down that almost feels like its falling back or moving in reverse)
A graha’s transit energy is the pressure it exerts upon the individual when it passes through a certain Rasi. This can be seen from the Moon or Lagna in a chart. The effects of a transit differs from person to person because the bhava placement or house placement wrt Rasi is not the same for all. Example: Rahu will transit to Aries in April 2022. For an Aries Ascendent, it means that Rahu will be transiting their Lagna. For a Scorpio Ascendent, Rahu will be transiting their 6th house. And throwing in the rest of the chart placement, the transit will mean different outcomes for different people.
Following is the transit times for the Grahas:
Sun: Sun takes approximately 30 days to travel through each sign.
Moon: Moon goes through all twelve signs in about 28 days. It takes approximately 2 1/2 days in each sign.
Mercury: Mercury stays for 14 to 30 days in a sign depending on the motion.
Venus: Venus stays for approximately stays for 23 days to a little over 2 months in a sign (depending on the motion).
Mars: Mars takes about 2 years to travel through all the Zodiac signs. Mars stays for about 1.5 months in a sign.
Jupiter: Jupiter takes about 12 years to travel through all 12 Zodiac signs. Jupiter stays for 1 year in a sign.
Saturn: Saturn is a very slow moving planet. It takes around 29.5 years to travel through all 12 Zodiac signs. Saturn stays for approximately 2.5 years in a sign.
Rahu and Ketu: Rahu and Ketu ard always retrograde. Rahu and Ketu takes around 1.5 years to travel through each Zodiac sign.
4.08: Karmas and Grahas: Which Grahas are responsible for highlighting Karma in our chart?
4.08.1: Firstly, every Graha carries with it a karmic signature. It is your Sanchita Karma that determines why the planet placements are as they are in your chart. This means that you carry karma that each graha will expect you to deliver at some point during current incarnation.
[The Sun is the karaka of the lagna and the 10th; Jupiter is the karaka of the 2nd, 5th, 9th and the 11th; Mars is the karaka of the 3rd and the 6th; the Moon is the karaka of the 4th; Mercury is the karaka of the 4th and the 10th; Saturn is the karaka of the 6th, 8th, 10th and the 12th and Venus is the karaka of the 7th house from the lagna; these are the Bhava-karakas.]
4.08.2: Secondly, Saturn is Karmakaraka in any chart. Saturn is the lord of 10th house in the Kalachakra. This is the house of career/work/karma. It is what we do for others and not for ourselves. In our times, this generally means employment. Even though we derive a wage or salary out of the work we do, it is still something we do for others and not for ourselves. A day labourer makes barely enough for his living from the karma he delivers to the world. A billionaire’s karma benefits from what he delivers and receives from his 10th House placement/Sthana.
Saturn being karaka of the 6, 8, 10, 12th houses in any chart. This means that whatever the native derives from these houses, it is only after Saturn’s say-so. Saturn controls what you get out of these houses. This is work that you must do. This is your Kriyamana Karma.
4.08.3: Thirdly, Rahu and Ketu are the reason we are born. They are chaaya-grahas. Everythig about them happens on the mental and spiritual plane as they dont have gross bodies and hence cannot participate in the physical/material world. They act upon our thoughts and thought patterns so we can translate it as action in our 3-D worlds. Hence they are very karmic grahas.
Rahu’s presence indicates all that we desire in this lifetime because what we didn’t get to attain in our previous incarnation. These are unfilled desires that cause a gnawing hunger for the soul. This the treasure chest that is brought from previous lifetimes by the mental imprint brought out by Rahu. These are desires, obsessions, addictions etc. This is last janma’s Agami Karma.
Ketu’s presence indicates all that we have already consumed in another lifetime and we are already satiated with those needs. We do not have any desire or needs to possess or chase these significations represented by the house in which Ketu is placed. However, because we are already experienced it, we remember them most easily even though we dont want to experience it again. So it lingers like a phantom desire or aptitude or weapon or power that we can easily access but have no desire to wield. Ketu has tasted everything material in the previous incarnation’s karmic cycle and as Mokshakaraka, Ketu is all about giving up so our path to join the Brahman can be accelerated. Ketu is also Akash tattva which means hidden knowledge that we can pull from the ether because we have special access to it.
4.09: Karmas from Houses:
The most important House which stores Karma is the 6th house in any chart. This means that we can look at the 6th house from Lagna and after determining Rasi/Graha/Qualities and Aspects of this house, we will be able to have a better insight into the unchangeable, fixed Prarabdha Karma of the native.
6th House represents Debt, Disease and Enemies. Our unchangeable fixed Prarabdha will come in these three forms as Karma in this lifetime that we have to face and discharge. So, the 6th house becomes the most important house to study when it comes to Karma.
We will learn more and why this is so in the upcoming sessions.
