This is an introduction to looking for wealth prospects in a chart. This is not a prediction guide but a way to learn how to come up with a prediction guide.
To look at wealth..or anything else..in a chart, the D-1 is just the first step. There are divisionals, timing of wealth inflow etc. But we must never forget that the basis of all Jyotish formulations is the D-1 or Rasi chart. This is the birth chart. Every other divisional chart emerges from the D-1.
To know the fundamentals of the D-1 and all of its intricacies is crucial to delve deeper into the rest of astrology. We must be very strong in understanding the D-1 and with fundamentals. Once we got that foundation right, anything else we build on top of it..any other technique..it will be right as rain because it is built upon a solid stable basis and understanding.
As I have mentioned many times earlier, we have three main components. Bhava/House, Rasi/Sign and Graha/”planet”. Let’s peel the first layer now:
House. Bhava. I want you to go back to the Karaka chapter or try to remember BHAVA KARAKAS. There are 12 Bhavas and they count from the Lagna. 1st Bhava is the Rasi where Lagna is placed. 2nd Bhava is second Rasi from Lagna. Etc.
This means: For a Aries Lagna, 2nd Bhava or 2H is Taurus. For a Libra Lagna native, 5th Bhava or 5H is Aquarius. Etc. So… what are the Bhavas for Wealth in a chart? The Signs or Rasis will differ for each person depending on their Lagna. In the example above. 5H for Aries is Leo and 2H for Libra is Scorpio. We are only going to look at Bhavas/Houses now.
But WHY? We have to go back to basics. Bhavas are ‘bhavams’ of the Grahas expressed in 12 different ways in charts. Bhavas receive energies from Rasis/Nakshatras. They are not fixed in nature. Their expressions or Bhava changes according to the Lagna placement in the chart. This is what makes us unique..at least in 12 different ways broadly.
Basics: Rasis deliver energies by imprinting upon the Grahas. Every Rasi has a Rasi Lord. The Grahas have a dual role. They receive as well as deliver. Grahas are always in motion and wherever they are placed in a chart, they will deliver and impress the energy they carry from the Rasis onto the Bhavas.
What does this mean? For a Leo Lagna who has Jupiter in Aries, it means..Jupiter(graha) is taking the energy from its own kingdom of Sagittarius and Pisces and applying it upon the kingdom of Mars which is Aries. In Jyotish parlance, we say, 5L in 9H. This translates to: Jupiter which is ruler and lord of 5H/Sag is placed in 9H/Aries AT BIRTH. Similarly, this chart also has 8L in 9H because Jupiter also has rulership of Pisces which is 8H for a Leo Lagna.
Now we calculate the strength and dignity of each house to determine how that aspect of life is destined for the native. Ok. This is about wealth. So we have to determine all the Bhavas or Houses that is associated with wealth.
1H: Lagna or Ascendant. We always start with the Lagna to understand the personality of the native. We can get a lot of details just from the Lagna placement. At least 50-60% of the chart can be evaluated by blank chart analysis using just the Lagna placement. This is the core. Lagna.
2H: Second House denotes family, resources, food, money one is born into as it is 2nd from 1H. This is the wealth that comes from family. This is Dhana Bhava.
3H: Third House wrt topic of wealth is the house from where we see community, support of siblings/peers and connections. It is also initiative and courage. For a business person who is self employed and entrepreneurial, this house needs to be strong and in dignity. This is Sahaja Bhava.
5H: Fifth House is the house of creativity, early education and blessings from Pitris. This is the foundation of future higher education and specialised knowledge. It is also the house of speculation, but more like stock market than gambling in las vegas. This is Vidya Bhava and Purva Punya Sthana.
9H: Ninth House is the house of Luck. This is our ripened beliefs and strongly held convictions. This is the support we get from teachers and mentors and seniors. This is the anchor of knowledge and practical experience. This is Dharma/Acharya/Pitru Bhava and Bhagya Sthana.
11H: Eleventh House is the house of large networks and big gains. This is the money earned from 10H which is Karma Bhava or career. This is also where we can see sudden windfalls like inheritance(has to be connected to 8H) or stock market gains or gambling profits or lottery tickets or IPOs etc. Everything here is oversized. This is Prapti Bhava or Labha Sthana.
From the above, we see that 1,5, 9 are the auspicious trikonas. 2 is neutral house. 3 and 11 are upachaya houses.
We should also apply Bhavat Bhavam. 5H is 5th from 1H. 9H is 5th from 5H. 2H is 2nd from 1H and 12th from 3H. 3H is 2nd from 2H. 11H is 6th from 6H.
So we see that here, 1,5,9 trikona bhava are connected to each other with 5th house vibes. 2H is connected to one trikona/kendra and one dushtana bhava. 3H is connected to a neutral bhava. 11H is connected to a dushtana bhava.
Take any chart and first write down the Lagna. Don’t write down any other grahas in the chart. Now mark 1,2,3,5,9,11 houses/bhavas in that chart.
Now you will have a list of Bhavas and corresponding Rasis for those Bhavas.
Now write down the Tattvas and Gunas of each of those Rasis.
Do this for as many charts as you can with different Lagnas. You should do minimum 12 charts, one for each lagna and more if you have the time. I would suggest that you dont use your own chart or the charts to whom you are emotionally attached. All of us have biases and pre conceived notions and fears and anxieties about ourselves and our loved ones. This will interfere with your intuition.
Write down your thoughts. Nobody is going to see these notes. You are not going to submit to me. So write whatever comes to your mind. This is your instinct or intuition. You have to be honest though and you are going to grade yourself later. You have to be honest there too.
Now, dig into your example charts. If you dont have known charts or your own chart, look for famous people who are also rich. Also look for poor people. Many artists and scientists died in penury. There are many astrology databanks of famous people online. You can also dig into it.
Now, look for patterns. We are only looking at Houses/Bhavas. So obviously, we only have minimal vision and that’s ok. Afterall, there are only 12 Bhavas. We are making broad sweeping generalisations about wealth capacity. The goal is to note things down and test yourselves.
Here is list you have to make for each lagna:
Lagna
1,2,3,5,9,11 bhavas/houses and the rasis/signs they occupy.
Rasi rulers of 1,2,3,5,9,11 houses.
Benefic or Malefic Rasi rulers.
What natural house of Kala chakra does 1,2,3,5,9,11 occupy?
Bhava Karaka.
What are your conclusions.
Example: Leo Lagna.
2H is Virgo. Virgo is natural 6H. Ruler of Virgo is Mercury. He can act as a malefic or benefic depending on chart placement. This means that for a Leo Lagna, their family wealth is tied to the 6H significations of Rogam, Rnum and Shatru. Bhava Karaka for 2H is Jupiter. Jupiter rules 5H and 8H for a Leo Lagna. So the family wealth of a Leo Lagna will go through many transformations/fluctuations, perhaps losses(as Jupiter is 8L and 8H is Pisces which is natural 12H) and can also have something to with 5H significations like speculation, education etc. A lot will depend on where Ju, Me is placed and what is placed in the Rasi of Virgo.
The above snippet is just an example. You can write more thoughts if they come to your mind. The idea is to understand your own thought process and how you connect the various concepts. For greater clarity, you can also note down Tattvas and Gunas of the Rasis and the Grahas involved.
Do this for all 6 Bhavas/Houses connected to Wealth. This is the first step.
It is like surveying a scene. First you look out of the window. You know its day or night. Then you see the general scenery outside. Then you see the shapes and outlines of the objects and people outside. Then you focus on the details. Then you hone in on the finer details. But first you have to adjust your eyes and know where to look for the finer details. That’s what we do when we understand the houses related to wealth. 1,2,35,9 and 11.
I will add more but everyone has to do their assignments. I can’t check each of your assignments. There is no right or wrong. This is understanding fundamentals and your own thought process.
This is just to get started so you know where to look automatically if you are reading a chart for wealth. You can’t look at everything when you get a chart. You need a particular concern like wealth or health or job or marriage etc. And you need to know which houses, signs and planets you have to focus on to answer the questions related to that particular subject. If we dont train ourselves to be focussed, then we will be running around like a headless chicken looking at everything and unnecessarily muddling everything. Questions should be focused so we know where to look and answers should be crisp and to the point to be accurate.
This is the training. This is where we apply the fundamentals. We dont need fancy tools or divisional charts or complicated calculations or top secret techniques. Just the fundamentals will give you a very precise read of the situation in any chart.
Please do this and take your time. The more you ponder upon these concepts, the clearer your thinking will become…and as always, please maintain your Jyotish journal.
Have fun. From this point on, if you are not having fun and being curious..then you should quit this subject. I hope that I have inspired fun and curiosity thus far.
